The scene
It is Wednesday, 2:00 in the afternoon, in the formulation lab at SYNTO Group, Building A. A formulation chemist is carrying a full 4-liter glass bottle of isopropyl alcohol from flammable cabinet FC-1 to fume hood 2 for an Excellence trial batch. The bottle slips and breaks on the floor in front of the hood. About a gallon is on the floor, running under the bench next to hood 2, and a hot plate is on, on that bench. There is a strong alcohol smell. The chemist's pant legs are splashed, and the chemist cut a palm on the glass. The chemist calls Arthur Dent. Outside it is 70 degrees and partly cloudy, with the wind from the south at 6 miles an hour.
